Today we are launching Mocklup, an open, browser-native mockup composition engine designed to help developers and designers present digital products elegantly without typical design-tool drag.
Mockup generation has historically been stuck in two bad extremes:
- Overly heavy design software: Loading Figma or Photoshop templates simply to rotate a screenshot is slow, requiring massive file weight and manual layer management.
- Watermarked, paid web utilities: Simple web solutions often hide export settings behind paywalls, enforce slow servers to generate layouts, or leak your images onto their database infrastructure.
We wanted to construct a third alternative: a fast, free, fully client-side sandbox engine.
The Mocklup Core Tenets
1. Zero-Backend Cloud Privacy
Mocklup runs 100% inside your native browser session. There are no registration flows, API endpoints, or image servers. Your product captures remain yours, securing unpublished design work of sensitive projects.
2. Physical 3D Prototyping
Instead of flattening 2D shapes, Mocklup leverages CSS 3D perspectives under GPU acceleration. You can adjust horizontal offset coordinates, height sliders, and tilt angles recursively. Seeing the design translate in real time makes tactile tuning incredibly satisfying.
3. Native Astro Performance
As an Astro marketplace template, we built our layouts with solid performance goals:
- Zero client-side JS on information pages: Home, About, and Blog listing pages are compiled completely to static HTML.
- Hydrated React Islands: Only the active design tool
/apptriggers React hydration, keeping total platform loads incredibly light. - Grayscale Theming: The interface utilizes consistent design variables (—color-border, —color-bg), ensuring the UI stays unified and allows your mockups to stand as the visual hero.
